Back in November we published an article regarding the government holding a consultation for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Draft regulations have now been laid before Parliament which will mean that from 1 October 2022 all landlords must ensure there is a working smoke alarm on each floor that has living accommodation for all new and existing tenancies, as well as providing carbon monoxide alarms where there is a fixed combustible appliance (excluding a gas cooker).

If a tenant reports an alarm is faulty the landlord must investigate the fault and repair or replace the alarm if required.
